This happens to be my second to last visit at the middle school. So on this day I once again pulled out my two students who I have been working this past semester. I made a matching game where the kids had to match the correct word to the correct picture and then repeat it to me in English. I also made an assessment where the kids had to fill in the correct word in the black that matched the picture.
In between those activities I did an activity with one of the boys, as my other students had to leave due to Milestone testing, called a dictogloss. This activity is where I read a short passage, I think mine was four sentences long, and have my students listen to me read. Then I would read it again and and this time the kids are supposed to copy down on a piece of paper what they think I am saying. I found this to be a really interesting activity because as I looked over my students written work after he had finished I noticed that some of the words that he wrote done he put and “a” as he would have done if he were wring in Spanish. After we were done my student and I went back to the main classroom where he worked more English on an app called Duolingo which I didn’t know existed until then and as I have since been playing on it myself I think that it can be very helpful to students learning another language.
