In reading Both Olson this week in preparation for this blog I noticed that the idea for multiple intelligence is how each aspect of learning and schooling is broken down into categories. For example, the idea of linguistic intelligence is  the ability to recognize and “the sensitivity to the sounds, rhymes, and meanings of words, as well as to to the functions of language” (Booth Olson, 74).

I suppose that one of the reasons this stood out to me the most is because as an English teacher I find that this particular one of the different multiple intelligence is the one that is most connected with me and my subject content.  Language is such a huge part of Language Arts (hence it being in the name) but it is not only the ability to use language it is linguistic intelligence is having the skill of language. Everyone will get to to point of being able to talk but whether or not they gain the ability recognize how language works.

This plays a huge part in Second Language learning and how they use, learn, and acquire language. I personally have completed the required classes and will have the ESOL endorsement when I graduate. I find that in not only working with linguistic intelligence but to also utilize other intelligence as well. An example of another intelligence that could be utilized while teaching second Language Learners would be musical intelligence. Not only will students who are musically inclined be able to connect other content with music but using music as a teacher tool is very beneficial. A simple example of this would be teaching a child the ABC’s song as a way to teach them the alphabet.

By utilizing different intelligence areas in allows students to add in different areas that can be influence in their lives because it is something that they enjoy and draw inspiration into their learning.
