After several visits to the middle school I have sort of figured out how most of the kids like to work. On this day I went to work with my two ESOL students on their online computer work that they do. One of the websites is called Brain Pop and it works with teaching students English grammar and vocabulary. After sitting down with them I would notice that instead of asking me any questions that they might have they would ask one of their friend who spoke English and Spanish to help them. It was then I realized that even though the school doesn’t pull the the ESOL students out to work on the English separately then I was going to need to.
After working with my ESOL kids it was time RTI again. The activity that my mentor teacher used was one I hadn’t seen before. She asked me to write the word “understand” once correctly and another three times incorrectly. Then one of the boys had to choose which spelling he thought was the correct spelling and then depending on if the right one he would then have to write three sentences with the word “understand”. It was a lot harder than I thought that it would be to misspell a word three different ways.
