Task #1

Five things the Cornicles of Narnia taught me.

  1. We all make mistakes and can be forgiven.

In the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Edmund choses to abandon his siblings and follow the Whit Witch, essentially betraying them. But even though Edmund made a mistake Aslan and his forgave him

  1. Change happens and we accept it and move on

At the end of Price Caspian Peter and Susan are told by Aslan that they we will not able to return to Narnia again anytime soon. Both children accept this answer knowing that they are growing up but that Narnia and the time that they spent there will always mean something to them. And as Aslan says, “Once a king or queen of Narnia always a king or queen of Narnia”.

  1. That some of the best stories are considered for children

I first read the series when I was in 5th or 6th grade and as I approach 27 years old these stories never get old and I continue to reread them. I love how every time I am transported to a magical land that I wish I could visit for real.

  1. Kindness goes a lot further than being mean

We see this in so many different characters. Aslan being a kind and loving king compared to the White Witch. Eustice leaning that making his cousins miserable will not make him any happier.

  1. Love conquers all

Similar to number 1but much more powerful. Aslan’s sacrifice of dying in Edmund’s place shows that even when we are at our worst, there are those who love us and want to help us.

Task #2

When I fully understood what a mentor text was it was then that I realized that I had been using them for years to teach myself how to do certain things. I love that a mentor text is an example of how I need to accomplish a task. Examples are extremely helpful for me as I am a very visual person and learner. Some of the activities that where given for this week I don’t really care for to do personally. I like doing books reports and being able to recall the information that I have read. It really does make me feel that I have really taken something from the text that I have read. However, that being said, I see the need for different approaches to a book report as a way to reach students and help them to do the best they can at reading and school.
